Reflection questions

A writer is someone like Stephen king and JK Rowling. Big name authors who received huge amounts of renown in the writing industry. “Everyone else is meh” was my thoughts if I were to be asked before taking this class. Being not to great at writing myself never dived to far into writing besides scientific and research papers. I had that view because big name authors always have huge amounts of publicity that overshadows just about everything else. I learned just about anything in today’s academia you are a writer to some extent whether you know it or not.

I feel that in todays society the title is appropriate but back in the “old days” it would be far fetched to equate the two. Coming into today’s society everything from social media to content creating all has a common theme being abstractly identified. Notions/titles in the past is most of the time more black/white point of view vs. today which is more abstract.

Being a writer in the 21st century that I learned to realize is that technology is changing daily. With those changes if you’re not keeping up to speed you’re falling behind. Technology in the past didn’t change as rapidly as today.

With technology advances the core root of writing is even applicable to today’s writing. I felt through the course all the import subjects of writing still had tremendous value. What really changed was the technology we used to convey those concepts.

Future writers will have to consider audience much more importantly and making sure whatever they produce doesn’t get stolen (content). Everything you write in today’s society can reach out to millions of people across the globe.

Questions for portfolio

The goal for my portfolio will be to adequately represent myself in a promising way and the work I’ve done this semester. So the goal is to showcase my work and self in a manner that rivals the professional eportfolio examples.

My intended audience would be anyone who would read the content I put together and can relate to what I’ve showcased.

The needs I believe Ill have to supply is background information and examples of everything I put on the portfolio. Being visually appealing as well would benefit to the audience as well.

I believe the importance that I want to showcase in my eportolio is my growth and learning through the semester. Showing both the good and bad to really highlight what I learned. i.e coding, rhetorical reflection, rhetorical analysis.

Secondary audience would potentially be other students taking the course in the future and anyone who have interest in peoples eportfolios. I will have to make sure the content I post is relevant to this semester and not go off topic.

The artifacts I post will all have a relation to the course and the assignments. Meaning it will be the examples I refer to when I put portfolio together. Skills or teaching I would look to reflect will focus on the projects I’ve accumulated through the semester.

For each example/artifact it will  be important due to their relevance and the experiences I want to share from doing the artifacts.

ePortfolios

The author of this website is Kevin Liu a first year mechatronics engineer at the University of Waterloo. Not much is said about him personally but more so about his brand, which is Inkless. A brand that provides bleached t-shirts instead of regularly inked shirts.

The purpose of this portfolio is more focused on his brand. So his brand is over a company called Inkless. The brand follows over a video game he developed and a clothing line. The purpose is pretty clear because what he iterates consistently is about what his brand represents and what he can provide through it.

The intended audience would be consumers who attract towards the clothing he is selling and the video game Black Magicks that he introduces. He organized the portfolio to be very user friendly and used consistent color and design to appraise his brand further.

The best way Kevin Liu reflected all the above is by staying consistent with his design and information that backed up his content. Through reflection on the portfolio he highlights his game and experiences that helped him reach the purpose of his actions.

As a viewer the content provided reflected visual appeal. The colors and design he used was intriguing. He approached his design choices rather basic but still compelling in the point of wanting to keep reading about his eportfolio.

The biggest factor that stood out to me was the video post at the very beginning of the portfolio. He provided background information and tons of visual appeals through a short video. Video post about the brand is something I noticed that is not frequently used.

Infographic maker by Canva.

This program/tool allows a user to upload information on to there templates provided by the program in various fashions. The purpose is to give structure to the information you want to provide in a appealing method to the program user. A comparison would be to power point except different in the structure designs of each program. Infographics is not structured by slides like a original PowerPoint by Microsoft. The texts used for infographics have more free range of textual designs. So the program can produce texts like books, blogs, and numerous others. This program I dabbled with is only available online but the traits to this program is similar to other programs. This program is for a trial period and is only available after giving a valid address. When first utilizing infographics the tutorial is straightforward in to the many designs and functions available. The biggest portion of using this program is making decisions on how you want everything set up after you have provided information on a design.  This program is very user friendly in the fact there is a tutorial video provided once making an account. Also to dig further into the capabilities of this program using YouTube was a huge help for more complicated animations and designs. With infographics everything is capable within the program except the information you are trying to put forth. You have plenty of options with the program but this is done after information is provided from past works or directly submitted into the program itself. You don’t need external sources like video recordings but it is available to be used in inforgraphics. Some benefits are the user friendliness to new users. It is comparable to power point if you are comfortable with that program. The option in the program is vast compared to other programs. Drawbacks I noticed is that the more premium version have a cost. The inforgraphic canva program can’t be confusing if you never used a program like this before. This program uses all common format inputs/exports. So pages, Microsoft,  and other formats can be supported through this program.

Revision Points for studio review

The major highlights from what feedback I received is my rough draft is very rough!Moving forward, my aim is to make everything clearer my explaining my topics further in depth and making sure I highlight key points like target audience, the purpose, and organizing my thoughts about my analysis a bit clearer.  Huge point that I am taking to consideration is to what my argument is for the analysis. Everything is rough at this point but the feedback I’ve been given is super informative. Also answering questions brought forth is also helpful. A question asked was “what makes these video games so appealing?” answering that would be a strong point to hit as well.

Wave Analysis

The sight that I chose to WAVE analysis is http://www.amazon.com. I chose this website to see how how it would compare to other sites that are simpler like google.com and netflix.com. Through the analysis from wave amazon.com had very few errors which were all around text (about 5) all together. With having over 100+ workable links there was only 1 link that displayed on the analysis on non functioning. Some changes that could help improving the site itself to be universal is making the non functioning aspects of the sites to work properly. Overall though with amazon.com the outline tabs of WAVE analysis shows that the intended purpose of the site is clearly shown throughout the site. With CRAP the contrast of the site is clear. Colors go with each other really well and is easy on the eyes (visually). Repetition of the site is shown accurately i.e links and bargains. Alignment of the site is symmetrical and makes sense to how its all organized. Proximity on all the clickable links are aligned and section-ally/evenly placed. Analysis is important using CRAP because it sheds light on what you can really focus on with universal designs. For my own work I’ll be focusing on utilizing CRAP entirely. All parts of my work can be touched up with this analysis.

Video games

Making the stages for my own video game was interesting and kind of annoying to learn about all the quirks and abilities that the game creator was capable to make.  Overall it was fun and nostalgic because I made my game sort of a Mario like jumping stages of jumping and running. In video games there is not set genres because a game can have a series of genres of games all in one video game. This game creating software is pretty limited to the games created today. The software I messed with was pretty straightforward to design but when comparing to other games it is vastly out matched. Games today are much more immersive and sophisticated. Its crazy to think of how far video gaming has come and the future it has. The rhetorical choices today are most definitely something game designers have to think about.

Application activity 2/19/19

The song I am analyzing is Michael Jackson’s beat it. I chose this song because it was the first song that really popped into my head and phone when I looked into my music. Throughout the song it gives off a vibe to get up and go to work is the way I analyze that songs theme. The rhyme and beats are pretty consistent throughout the whole song so you could really just snap your fingers through it and dance very rhythmically like Michael Jackson did from his performances or music videos. These questions are related because it all sets a certain mood and theme that is clear through the song.

Watching the music video after listening to the song really did not change much from what I had imagined through just listening to the song. The music video made me feel the same way but made me realize the dance moves I imagined in my head was a lot different from the dancing in the music video. I felt like I didn’t experience much change because the song is so consistent really displays a “upbeat theme”.

The music genre of Michael Jackson was very alike. Upbeat and consistent to making you feel a certain way. Feelings of wanting to get up and dance. Songs like Billy jean and thriller. All had a strong affect as when I listened to beat it. This assignment helped a lot to identify genre with music because the music I chose to analyze had such a strong effect on myself and I was able to identify those initial feelings/relate to the music.

Experience with Imovie

The purpose really of my clip was to reminiscent a little bit about some friends doing karaoke. The ending credit should have a wasted caption at the end like in GTA5. Overall using Imovie was straightforward to video editing. Some of the limitations to using Imovie is a lot of editing options which can be a little overwhelming. And in hindsight I missed out on some cool movie modifications. The big affordances I got while using Imovie is the user friendliness for basics of movie editing like cropping parts of the clip I felt that were not good.
